The body is a complex “soup” of a variety of chemicals that communicate information about how our tissues should respond. Hormones are key players in this communication network. Their messages have profound impacts on our physiology. They need to be in balance much like all of the instruments in a symphony need to be tuned. When the hormones are “out of tune”, symptoms and disease can ensue.

Just like all of the instruments in a symphony need to be in tune, so do all of the hormones of the body need to be in balance.

It is estimated that between 25-50% of adults have endocrine imbalances. 1, 2 It is no wonder the numbers are so high when nutritional deficiencies and excesses, reduced physical activity, poor lifestyles, and an increase in environmental toxins are so commonplace. These factors can greatly influence the balance of our hormones.

Hormonal and endocrine imbalances have been associated with many conditions:

  • Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Graves’ disease
  • Adrenal insufficiency/fatigue
  • Premenstrual syndrome
  • Prostate enlargement
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Female/Male infertility
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
  • Fibrocystic breasts
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Osteoporosis
  • and much more

Treating hormonal imbalances requires a multi-faceted plan including diet, therapeutic foods, lifestyle interventions, and nutraceuticals.

In this course, Advanced Clinical Focus on Hormones and Endocrinology, we will examine how to identify a person’s hormonal imbalances, and how to bring the “symphony” of hormones back in tune.
